Welcome to St. Bernard-Elmwood Place City Schools

Dear Titan Community,

On April 8, 2024, a once-in-a-lifetime event will occur in our region:  a total solar eclipse.  While this eclipse is exciting, it also brings certain risks to anyone who looks directly at the sun, even for a moment, without appropriate eye protection.  Because the peak of this eclipse will occur during our normal dismissal times, we will implement a two-hour early release on that day.  This will allow adequate time for students to reach their homes before the eclipse begins.  The safety of our students is our top priority, and we hope to minimize the possibility that any student could sustain retinal damage by the temptation to look directly at the eclipsing sun without eye protection and supervision.

Here are some key details regarding the early release on April 8th:
   • Early Release Time:  Students will be released two hours earlier than their regular            dismissal time.
   • Transportation:  Bus transportation will be provided as usual. The intent of the early
dismissal is to ensure that your child arrives home before the the eclipse commences
so you can supervise their viewing of the eclipse.
   • Safety Guidelines:  We encourage you to talk to your child about the importance of not
looking directly at the sun during the eclipse.  If you have appropriate solar viewing
glasses, please provide them to your child on this day and supervise their use.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your school office (High School, 513-482-7100; Elementary, 513-482-7110).

Thank you for your continued support in ensuring the well-being of our students and staff.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mimi Webb
