EdChoice

Some questions have been raised in the community about our EdChoice status for 2019-20 for both St. Bernard Elementary and St. Bernard-Elmwood Place High Schools. These designations are assigned based on specific criteria published on the Ohio Department of Education website and are based on state report card grades from 2013, 2014, and 2018.  They do not reflect failure on the part of the schools but are the result of grades of D in one specific report card category in each school two of the three identified years.

St. Bernard Elementary was qualified as an EdChoice school in Ohio for 2019-20, because the school received a grade of D in improving at-risk K-3 readers on state report cards years 2014 and 2018. Residents were permitted to apply to EdChoice, through July 31, 2019, for private school vouchers, as a result of this designation.

St. Bernard-Elmwood Place High School was qualified as an EdChoice school for 2019-20, because a grade of D received on state report cards 2013 and 2014 on one of the two graduation rate categories assessed on each of those state report cards. As a result of this designation, residents were permitted to apply to EdChoice, through July 31, 2019, for private school vouchers.  For the 2018 report card, the graduation rate grade for St. Bernard-Elmwood Place High School was C, which is average, and the same designation received by Norwood and Winton Woods.  Mt. Healthy Local Schools received a D while Lockland and Cincinnati Public Schools received an F.
