Building Project Update

Dear Parents/Guardians/Community:

The purpose of this communication is to address changes happening with the Building Project. As you may have heard already, DAG, the general contractor of the Project has determined to default on the project, effective immediately.  Much like the communities in St. Bernard and Elmwood, the Board and the OFCC are extremely frustrated with the actions of DAG, including receiving this most recent news of an abrupt closure before completing this Project.

Ohio Farmers Insurance Company is the surety for DAG on the Project and will be stepping in to complete the Project. A surety financially guarantees the completion of a project in the event the contractor for whom the surety provided a bond does not complete its performance. District and OFCC officials have received assurances that the surety is doing all that is in its power to complete the Project. They are currently working now to meet with the subcontractors, assess the current status of the Project, and develop a reliable schedule for its completion. We hope to have more information on that in the coming weeks.

We appreciate your continued patience with this unprecedented situation. Much like you, we look forward to enjoying the new facilities that our students and this community deserve. We are hopeful that the departure of DAG represents a positive turning point for the Project that will enable us to obtain the labor, skill, and management the Project needs to get it over the finish line in a reasonable time.

Sincerely,

Mimi R. Webb, Ed.D.
Superintendent
