EPE Selected for State Wellness Initiative

Elmwood Place Elementary has been selected to be part of the Ohio School Wellness Initiative during the 2021-2022 school year. The grant will help address non-academic barriers to learning, such as issues connected to alcohol, drugs, or mental health issues. Elmwood Place Elementary will adopt the Ohio Model School Assistance Program (SAP) to help children overcome barriers to education. Rather than sending more service providers to work directly with kids, the program is designed to train staff in techniques that will help them provide long-term support for students. The program will also provide support for staff to help combat burnout and fatigue in the classroom. Elmwood Place Elementary is one of only 90 schools across the state to be selected. The program is being sponsored through the Ohio Department of Education and run by Miami University's Center for School-Based Mental Health Programs.
