READS is a structured reading mentoring program.

Classroom teachers select students who will benefit from one-on-one focused reading with trained adult mentors. Presently, READS will service students from the first, second, and third grades.

A mentor works with an individual student on objectives and activities prepared by the READS coordinator to target specific skills.

St. Bernard Elementary has been part of a mentor reading intervention since February 2000.
